Sulwald
Sulwald is a very very small village, it consists maybe of 5 houses and couple of farms and it is situated on the mountain not so far from Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen.
You can reach Sulwald by hiking up from Isenfluh or even from Lauterbrunnen if you have more time.
This time we took a very small cable car from Isenfluh (it costs 12CHF both ways for one person) up to Sulwald and started our hike to Saustal.
From Sulwald as well you can choose quite many other routes or even go to Lobhornhütte and spend a night there 🙂 Hopefully I will do it one day 🙂
Sulwald – Saustal
This time we chose direction to Saustal which is a magical valley in the middle of mountains.
The hike to Saustal is not very hard, just in the beginning there are couple of quite steep sections, but those sections have steps, so it’s not that hard.
In the middle of hike you are going to reach a nice old farm which offers free Alps water and has a huge stone in the yard of it. It is told that in the old days pagans came to this stone to pay respects to the gods.
Right after this farm we reached a fast going river and met a mountain goat on a pretty steep slope 😉 I always wonder how they can walk on such terrain.
Not so far from our goat position we took a nice path in the middle of forest which looked like from a fairy tale. Slowly going up, moss all around and big trees surrounding us.
Later one we reached a huge waterfall. At this time, snow is melting pretty fast in the mountains and that’s why all the Alps rivers are massive, fast and loud.
And just right after couple of more steeper sections we reached Saustal which has a river in the middle of it and some very old wooden houses. We even met a person working there, and old gentleman fixing his property in high mountains 🙂
Saustal is really fabulous and peaceful place so we decided to have our lunch there and enjoy the views, silence and good weather. We found couple of comfortable stones and served our food there 🙂
Time flies by in such places, but at such altitude, warmth goes away pretty fast, so we decided to pack our stuff and go back to Sulwald 🙂
Saustal for me just proves that there are hundreds of amazing and spectacular places in Switzerland. If not thousands. Saustal is not advertised anywhere. Even Sulwald or Isenfluh is not very well known. Maybe to locals 🙂 I found Saustal the first time really accidentally… I just took a turn once to Isenfluh, found any hiking route and walked any direction and woulia 🙂 Saustal 🙂
So if you are in Switzerland, just go to the Alps region, take any route and I am pretty happy that you will find some amazing views 🙂
