Tips before Camino de Santiago
Actually there are quite many tips before doing Camino de Santiago and if I try to put them all in one article, it would be preeeeety long one and you would give up very fast 🙂
So I decided to group these tips into few categories.
As I mentioned before, I did Camino de Santiago (Camino Francais) two times, I did Camino Portugues from Porto two times and I walked a little bit of Camino North. I learned all these things the hard way, especially from the first Camino I did in 2009. I really hope they will help you and you avoid much pain (especially in your foot) and much uncomfortable situations 🙂
So the categories are:
Shoes – that is the most important one. Believe me 🙂
Clothes – from pants to socks, from buffs to underwear 🙂
Backpack – size and weight.
Additional gear/stuff – from gps trackers to mp3 players, from umbrellas to flasks.
Sleeping bag – well, you have to sleep somehwere 😉
Albergues – should you sleep in albergues? Which albergues to choose? Should you sleep in hotels or private rooms?
Which Camino to choose – when I first did Camino de Santiago, there were maybe 7 different ways, as far as I know there are more now, so we will cover this topic as welll.
How long should I walk – I did first Camino Francais in 29 days, second time in 23 days. And the second time was easier one 🙂
How many kilometres should I walk everyday – I made 20km on some days and 50 on others 🙂
People – should I take a friend? Should I join a group of people? Should I walk alone?
Should I prepare before Camino – Should you start running or walking longer distances before coming to Spain?
Costs – food, accommodation, restaurants and other stuff.
How to get to the starting point? – you may start from Saint Jean Pied de Port or Porto or even other places if you wish. Maybe you will walk the whole distance, maybe just half.
And there maybe be more topics to cover 🙂
