Exploring the Beauty of Italian Hiking Trails

Hiking holidays in Europe offer an exhilarating way of exploring some of the world’s most breathtaking scenery. In Italy, the opportunities for hiking are especially noteworthy. If you’re looking at walking holidays in Italy, then you’ll want to consider at least one of the following.

The Greenway of Lake Como

Lake Como is among the most famous lakes in the country, and this route is among the best ways of seeing it. You’ll enjoy panoramic views of the iconic waters, over seven distinct legs. You can cover the entire length of the greenway in around three hours, taking in fishing villages, forests, villas and churches. This is among the most beautiful places in the entire country! You’ll be walking along the route of the Roman road Via Regina, which linked Milan with Cremona.

The Gran Paradiso Grand Tour

The Gran Paradiso is a national park which sits in the middle of the Graian Alps, just between Aosta and Piedmont. From this amazing route, you’ll be able to see alpine lakes and glaciers, among other things. You can, however, expect a fairly challenging hike. You’ll be spending at least five days moving up and down the mountains, staying in little Italian lodges along the way. The trail is more challenging during winter, and in some cases, it can be made impassable by extreme weather.

The Path of the Gods on the Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast is among the biggest draws in the country, and you can cover a significant stretch of it on foot. The Path of the Gods sits right at the top of the Amalfi and Sorrento coasts, and, once you walk it, you’ll have a fair idea of where the name comes from. You’ll get the feeling that you’re at the very top of the world. As such, it’s not a good match for those who struggle with heights. Visit during the autumn or spring if you want to avoid the most severe temperatures.

The Via degli Dei between Bologna and Florence

This road runs between two major cities, through some truly inspiring and incredible woodland. It covers 130 kilometres, which most hikers will be able to cover over five separate legs. It’s a great deal more approachable than some of the hillier hikes we’ve mentioned here, but you should still make sure that you’re equipped for a long hike.
